I wanted to know what the mental health toll was on all of this so I reached out to Dr. Cristina Poscablo-Stein. She is a board certified psychiatrist. She did her undergrad at Rutgers University with a BA in Biology and Sociology, and received both her MD and MPH degrees from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She went on to complete residency training in General Psychiatry at Emory University. Between 2016 and 2019, Dr. Poscablo-Stein worked as an ER psychiatrist at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
With roots in the northeast, she now calls Atlanta home. Her private practice is located in the historic neighborhood of Grant Park. What I love about Dr. Cristina's practice is her therapy based approach to psychiatry. Whereas many psychiatrists will just sit down for 5-10 minutes and throw drugs at a patient, Dr. Cristina is more interested in getting the full picture, putting skills and tools in place, and applying medicine where necessary.
We sat down remotely and talked about how this pandemic is affecting her practice of psychiatry as a physician. What is the good and the not so good parts of remote therapy and medicine?
